Matthew is an award-winning writer, director and producer from London whose work has screened at BIFA, BAFTA and Academy Award-qualifying festivals. His work has been featured by the BBC, Vimeo and Film Shortage, among others. With dual South African and Persian heritage, Matthew’s storytelling often delves into identity and relationships.
Selected for the BFI Directors Lab 2024, Matthew was commissioned to write and direct the micro-short The Calm. His earlier short film Obolus caught the attention of Eric Heisserer (Arrival, Bird Box), leading to its development into a feature-length project with production company Grey Matter. Matthew’s portfolio includes a slate of short and feature-length scripts to take further into development and production.
Matthew began his career as a creative researcher, collaborating with notable clients like Bradford Young (Selma, Arrival) and Alejandro G. Iñárritu (The Revenant, Birdman). He was selected for the Directors UK Inspire scheme, where he is mentored by Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders, His Dark Materials, Black Mirror). Under this mentorship, Matthew shadowed and directed splinter-unit for the Sky and Peacock series Lockerbie: A Search For Truth, supported by ScreenSkills and the BFI.
An active member of BAFTA Connect and Directors UK, Matthew continues to push creative boundaries as he develops compelling projects for screen.
